”As part of the effort, Amazon made a mega deal for a Lord Of the Rings TV series and is developing a slew of high-profile titles, including The Dark Tower, Wheel of Time, Ringworld, Lazarus and Snow Crash.”
Since that initial article there hasn’t been any follow up articles that didn’t use that brief mention as the source, nor has there been any official confirmation from Amazon or anyone related to the shows….until now!
Tal Yguado, Head of Genre at Amazon tweeted this yesterday:
Glen Mazzara is the Showrunner for the Dark Tower show.
Tal Yguado is Head of Event Series at Amazon, She was tasked with the development and production of big scope, big event genre series — hourlong science fiction, action, fantasy and horror series.
The above retweet by Sharon Tal Yguado has since been deleted from her account, but @clubstephenking on twitter have posted this:
“Amazon contacted us to tell us that the project is well under development, but has not yet received the green light.“
Cuthbert Allgood: Question: Given the choice of anyone in the world, who would you want as a dinner guest? Roland Deschain: Honestly, I would choose Susan. Cuthbert Allgood: Aww. I would choose a janitor, because I’m about to throw up.
Buried in an unrelated story over on Deadline was the news that Amazon is apparently the home for the small screen version of “The Dark Tower.”
“As part of the effort, Amazon made a mega deal for a Lord Of the Rings TV series and is developing a slew of high-profile titles, including The Dark Tower, Wheel of Time, Ringworld, Lazarus and Snow Crash”.
We don’t have any other firm details at this time, but last we heard, Glen Mazzara (formerly of AMC’s “The Walking Dead”) was to be the series’ showrunner.
In reference to that last ask: B/c I'm obsessive, I've looked far and wide for an actor I think could portray Roland, and while we all know that nobody would be perfect unless we could bring Michael Whelan's illustrations to life (I wish, right?), I think that Clive Owen would work best out of everyone else I've looked at. Just my two cents 🙂
What do you think of this Dark Tower cast list that my friend and I came up with? Clint Eastwood's son as Roland, (younger) Leonardo DiCaprio as Eddie, Lupita Nyong'o as Susannah, and Jaeden Leiberher as Jake
Scott looks like Clint but he can’t act, plus he’s too young???? I honestly think this fandom needs to stop with the idea that Roland HAS to look like Clint Eastwood. He served as a reference for the character but that’s it. I think Roland was even described as a mixture of cherokee and something else at some point in the series so that was pretty cool. Still, I have no idea who could portray the “ideal” Roland, that seems impossible to me lol.
A young Leo as Eddie wouldn’t be my first choice but it doesn’t sound like a bad idea to me.
I love Lupita, she’s a great actress but I think I would prefer to see Danai Gurira or Nicole Beharie as Suze/Odetta/Detta.
Jaden is a good choice, he did a great job as Bill in It but he’s too old I think, isn’t Jake like 10 years old in the books? (I’m being too picky, I know haha)
